Privacy Policy

Summary: We don't rent, sell or share your data with other companies or advertisers. Our optional premium subscription is the only way we make money, so our incentives are aligned with yours.

At Strides, we believe you have the right to know how your data is being used, and that businesses should align their incentives with their customers'. In our case, as a software company, we take great pride in the fact that we only make money if you choose to upgrade to our optional premium subscription, which means we never have to sell data or clutter up the interface with annoying ads.

To be totally transparent, we created this privacy policy to explain, in plain English, how we handle data, including any 'Personally identifiable information' (PII). PII, as used in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your data.

  • INFORMATION WE COLLECT

    Account Information
If you choose to use Strides exclusively on an iOS device, without signing up for an optional Strides account, we don't need to collect any information in order for you to use the app because in this case the data is only stored locally on your device. If you want to sign up for a Strides account to sync your data between devices and keep it safely backed up, you can enter your email address and a password to authenticate. You can also enter your first/last name if you'd like.

    Analytics Services
In order to improve our product, we collect anonymous aggregate data about visitors to our website with Google Analytics and usage of our mobile app with Fabric and Amplitude. We don't use any features that track you as a user, we just want to know how people are using our app's features so we can make them better and stay in business. :)

    COOKIE POLICY

    Technologies We Use
To provide you with a better experience, we use cookies, local storage and software development kits.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device or in your browser. They can be first-party or third-party. First-party cookies we use are for authentication and security (i.e. Logging in and storing your session so you don't get logged out every time you use the website). Third-party cookies we use are Google Analytics and Amplitude. More information about how we use these cookies to improve your experience can be found in the Analytics Services section above.

Local storage is a way of, well, storing things locally on your device. This can include browser caching, or a local database on your mobile device for offline usage.

Software development kits are simply code blocks that are used to save time and help us understand how our user base interacts with our apps. e.g. Amplitude helps us figure out what features are being used most, and Fabric helps us prioritize and fix crashes.

    Your Options
You can control or limit how we and our partners use cookies:

  • Browser Settings: You can clear or decline cookies
  • Google Analytics: Install the opt-out browser add-on
  • Ads: We don't show ads or track users over time or retarget, but Do Not Track signals can help with other services that do.
  • Note: We're also working on adding options to opt-out of certain cookies directly on our website's Account page.

    HOW WE USE INFORMATION

    Provide and Maintain Services
Using the limited information that we collect allows us to provide you with a way to track your goals and habits with Strides. For example, if you want to keep your data backed up and synced between devices, we use your login info to securely authenticate your session to keep your safe and available on all of your devices. If you contact us for customer support, we can also fix problems for you in the database.

    Improve Services
We also use the information we collect to make improvements to the app itself. For example, if we see that a lot of people are using a particular feature, we can focus our development efforts on fixing that feature's bugs or building on it based on feature requests.

    Communicate With You
We do not use push notifications on your phone to interrupt your day with marketing messages. We only send push notifications that you have scheduled in the app to help you with your habits. If you choose to sign up for a Strides account, your email address will be added to our list, which we only use to occasionally send information about major product updates or sales. If you want to unsubscribe, we provide a clear link to do that at the bottom of every email we send.

    Promote Safety and Security
We also use the information collected to improve the safety and security of our service. For example, authenticating your session ensures that someone else can't log in and mess with your account, so this information prevents fraud and abuse. We also use a secure payment processing system to collect payments through our website.

    HOW INFORMATION IS SHARED

    For Legal Reasons
Though we've never been asked to before, we may preserve of disclose information about our users to comply with the law, governmental process, legal process or regulation; to defend against legal claims or assert legal rights; or to prevent, detect or investigate illegal activity, fraud, abuse, violation to our terms, or threats to the security of our services or the safety of any person. If we need to access your information for legal reasons, such as a search warrant or court order, we will notify you, unless we are prohibited by law to do so. If a court order includes a non-disclosure period, we'll notify you after it has expired. If there's any danger of death or serious injury to a person relating to the notification policy, we won't send a notification to protect them.

We may share non-personal information that is aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual. We may disclose such information publicly and to third parties, for example, in public reports about goals and habits, to partners under agreement with us, or as part of the community benchmarking information we provide to users of our subscription services.

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will continue to take measures to protect the confidentiality of personal information and give affected users notice before transferring any personal information to a new entity.

    HOW TO ACCESS/CONTROL YOUR DATA

    Accessing and Exporting Data
We're making Export Data, a previously-premium feature, free as of May 25th. This way, you can export your log history to a CSV file. Use it as a backup, to analyze your data in a spreadsheet program, or to continue tracking with it separately from the app.

    Editing and Deleting Data
You are always free to edit or delete your data in the app. If you'd like to delete your data from the Strides servers, you can do that from the Account page in the app. It will be permanently removed as soon as you confirm the deletion. If you do this on iOS, you can keep the data locally on your iOS device.

    Objecting to Use of Data
On iOS or Android, you can adjust your privacy and notification options in Settings. We're also adding an option to opt-out of some cookies on our website. If you have other questions or objections about data use, please contact us here.

Restricting or Limiting Use of Data
In addition to the various settings that we offer, if you reside in a Designated Country, you can seek to restrict our processing of your data in certain circumstances. Please note that you can always delete your account at any time.

If you need further assistance regarding your rights, please contact us here and we will consider your request in accordance with applicable laws.

    DATA RETENTION

We keep the account information you provide, like your email address and password (encrypted), for as long as your account is in existence, because we need it to operate your account. We keep other information, like your log history, until you delete the data or your account because we use this data to provide you with your personal statistics and other aspects of our service. We also keep information about you and your use of the Services for as long as necessary for our legitimate business interests, for legal reasons, and to prevent harm, including as described in the How We Use Information and How Information Is Shared sections.

    PROTECTING CHILDREN

Children under the age of 13, or any higher minimum age where the child lives, are not permitted to create accounts unless their parent has consented in accordance with applicable law. If we learn that we have collected the personal information of a child under the relevant minimum age without parental consent, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible. Parents who believe that their child has submitted personal information to us and would like to have it deleted may delete it from the Account page in the app.

    INFORMATION SECURITY

We work hard to keep your data safe and secure with a combination of technical, administrative and physical controls (e.g. Redundancy, daily offsite backups, SSL, encrypted passwords, etc). No method of transmitting or storing data is completely secure and failsafe, however. If you have a security-related concern, please contact us here.

    POLICY CHANGES

If there are any changes to this policy, we will update this page. If anything significant has changed, we will notify you by email if you've provided your email address and are on our email list.

    General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The only personally identifiable information we collect is your email address, which is only collected if you decide to enter your email address to sign up for a Strides account. If you sign up, your data is stored on our servers, hosted by Amazon Web Services, and can only be accessed by two people in the company, which only have database access to provide technical support. We encrypt passwords and do not use log data for anything other than formulas and charts displayed in the app (we never rent, share or sell data in any way).

To permanently delete your data from the Strides servers, please use the Delete Account function in the app. Upon confirmation, this will purge all data for your user record in the database, leaving no trace of your data on our servers. Also, you can use our iOS app entirely offline, without syncing/storing tracker data on our servers.

If you'd like access to any data you have stored on Strides servers, or to restrict access to your data, please contact us here and we will take care of it for you as quickly as possible.
